The Portsmouth Historical Society offers walking tours daily. This tour is based around the town itself with its rich history and current happenings. With the starting times being typically 10:30 AM and 2:30 PM, you can grab a coffee in the lobby and head to your walking tour which will begin right across the street from Hotel Thaxter. It is an informative 90 minute walking tour that will show and tell the beautiful history of our home. 

Want to add a little spook to your summer stay in Portsmouth? Available on the weekends, New England Curiosities offers you to join the author Roxie J. Zwicker who wrote, Haunted Portsmouth, on an evening stroll through the most chilling parts of the town. In addition, they also offer a, “Wicked Haunted Waterfront Tour”, that runs for two hours as you explore a hidden tunnel, the old red light district, and haunted theaters

Experience Portsmouths Black History with a beautiful walking tour that recognizes the rich history of New Hampshire. On this tour, you’ll be able to learn about the African American roots right here in the town of Portsmouth. These tours are offered by The Black Heritage Trail of New Hampshire, and their goal is to inform people of the over 300 years that the Africans and their descendants have been a part of the history of our town. 

Eat your way through Portsmouth with the Portsmouth Eats Restaurant Tasting Tours. They offer three different food tours you may choose from: the White Tablecloth Culinary Tour, the Best of Portsmouth Tour, and the Sweets and Treats Tour. Each one focuses specifically on the best restaurants in those categories. Portsmouth is very well known for its food, (most of the restaurants here have been featured on various shows). Each tour ranges from an hour and a half to three hours, taste your way through this foodie town and then wind down in the comfort of your room.
